Q&A Results

On Wednesday we had a lengthy Question and Answer meeting with as many people as could fit into a region. We explained that our current internal code is quite unstable after merging with LL’s latest release code and we expect things to get worse once we merge in Server Side Baking  (SSB) code. The main point is that we are faced with some big challenges and expect we will have to release SSB before our viewer code has reached our stability standards or passed our Quality Assurance testing. This is because we are on the clock with this one and once LL flips the switch for SSB you will all need a viewer that has SSB capability, else avatars everywhere may look like this.

A great deal more was also discussed; for a full summary of the Q&A, Inara Pey’s BLOG and Nalates Urriah’s BLOG  both have very well written summaries and I highly encourage you to have a read from them, as well please send your friends to read them too. The next few months are going to be rough and it’ll be good for everyone if folks understood why.

Pantera Polnocy was kind enough to record the meeting on video, you can watch that here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_B8iWQ46Wg (it starts around 16 minutes in).

TRANSCRIPT UPDATE: Inara Pey has written a very good and detailed transcript for those with hearing impairments. You can read the transcript on her blog here http://modemworld.wordpress.com/2013/02/19/firestorm-meeting-13th-february-2013-video-and-transcript/

Good things are coming and the destination looks very promising, but the journey may be a long and rough ride.

Wednesday Question and Answer Meeting

Every once in a while, and probably not often enough, we host a Question and Answer session in Second Life for the Second Life community. The purpose is to give us the opportunity to update you all with what we are doing and give you the opportunity to have a say, ask questions you may have to the team, voice complaints, make requests and in general communicate with us directly. This Q&A will not be quite like our office hours. It will not be as formal, it will be far less structured, and it will not be streamed live.

Seating is limited to 70 avatars and is first come first serve. We will, however, try to record it and offer the recording for folks who couldn’t make it.

All are invited, fans and haters alike, people who use our viewers and those who don’t… everyone.
All questions are welcome, we only ask that language be kept PG and folks be civil to each other.

The Q&A will be held in voice, but questions may be asked in text. If you would like to volunteer to transcribe the recording into text, please email Jessica Lyon at jessica.lyon@phoenixviewer.com.

WHO: Everyone! Users and non-users, fans and non-fans, all are welcome. Jessica Lyon (project manager) will run the Q&A, but we will have developers and support persons available as well.

WHEN: Wednesday, Feb 13 at 1:00PM Second Life Time. That’s PST.

WHERE: Same location as our office hours – follow the SLurl. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Phoenix%20Firestorm%20Support/171/128/4004

WHY: Because being available to communicate and interact with the SL community, unscripted, is important! Giving the community the opportunity to have a say in what we do is important!

Hope to see you there!
